Thank the Lord - He's been doubly good to you

[big announcement]

The above photograph was digitally altered using the "Dooce Effect™" in Photoshop.

Tomorrow, Sunday, is a big milestone for our family. I enter the second trimester of pregnancy*. Yes, you heard right. We are expecting our second child in June 2005! It's a "hurricane baby" affectionately referred to as "Charlie Frances Ivan Jeanne".

Although having a second child is a momentous occasion for any family, it is especially so for ours. Those of you who have been around since the tampatantrum.com days know of our (quite public) struggles with infertility over the years.

To go from literally sitting across from one of the top infertility specialists in the country just a few short years ago and being told I'd never conceive a child on my own without several medical miracles occurring all at once — to suddenly bracing and preparing for "two under two", both conceived au naturel — well it's just almost more than our minds can comprehend. To say our home has been blessed beyond our wildest imaginations doesn't even begin to cover the joy and Thanksgiving we are feeling in our hearts, and sharing with our family and friends, right now.

So far, I'm very happy to report, things are going quite well with this pregnancy after a very shaky beginning. If our son was our little miracle, I don't even know what to term this child. One week we were told I was losing the pregnancy after bloodwork came back lower than expected, and the following week they determined that I wasn't as far along as they'd earlier thought, and we were right on target for where things should be and an ultrasound was scheduled. We had that first ultrasound back on November 1st, and were able to see and hear the heartbeat live right away during it (at only six weeks along) thanks to wonderful new equipment by GE. We had another appointment this past Wednesday and they found the heartbeat — good and strong at 162 bpm, again right away. I have another follow-up this coming Thursday and then it's time to relax and prepare for the holidays ahead.

The pregnancy has been a literal whirlwind compared to my last. I simply cannot believe the second trimester is already upon me! Now it's time to daydream of baby blankets and baby shoes, baby slippers, baby spoons walls of..... Trust me when I say I'm "eating for two".

A very public thank you for those who have prayed for us over the years. I can only hope and pray you'll receive the same amount of blessings in abundance that we are sharing at this very moment.

We're...having a(nother) baby!
