Beach Boys

I'm gonna soak up the sun
Gonna tell everyone
To lighten up

I'm gonna tell 'em that
I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame
I'm looking up
I'm gonna soak up the sun

I'm gonna soak up the sun
While it's still free
I'm gonna soak up the sun
Before it goes out on me...

Yesterday was Todd's birthday - his very first as a dad. Todd's mom is in town right now for a visit, so we all woke up to a pancake breakfast followed by present-exchanges, and then headed out for a big day o' fun around the Tampa Bay area.

First we visited the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs. (More photos of this location to follow later in the week.) What a hidden gem in our area! After watching a mini-feature on it during Olympic coverage last week, we decided a day-trip was in order, and I'm very thankful for the discovery! In addition to great shopping and amazing Greek food and desserts, the scenic walks are sure to cure many a boredom-filled fall afternoon ahead...

After that, we drove down to Clearwater Beach for a quick visit. It was our son's very first time at the beach. He wasn't quite sure what to make of the sand and surf at first, but he definitely enjoyed curling his tiny little toes up in the fine, white powder. But since Todd turns into a pumpkin if he spends more than 15 minutes in the sunshine - we came, we saw, we paid the parking fee and hit the road again.

Before heading for home, Todd selected Los Mariachis as the site of his yummy-nummy birthday dinner. Then his mom treated us all to one of the best lemon cakes I've ever tasted. All in all, not a bad way to kick off year thirty-two if you ask me! Birthdays are simply much better with slobbery baby kisses...
